KWSA – The World’s Largest Kinetic Wall
KWSA is a 209-square-meter kinetic installation at Aramco’s VVIP Center in Riyadh.
As the largest kinetic wall ever built, it required precise engineering, efficient production,
and a structured approach to installation and maintenance.
The system consists of 20,000 stepper motors,
each controlled by a custom cross-shaped PCB integrated within the chassis to maintain a clean visual design.
Motion is driven by a high-helix lead screw system, which, through a lever mechanism, converts rotational motion into linear movement.
Self-lubricating technopolymer components minimize noise and eliminate the need for lubrication.
Maintaining a tolerance of just a few tenths of a millimeter across six 6x7 meter walls was a key challenge.
This was addressed using advanced simulations, an automated production pipeline, and custom precision tools,
including a press for adhesive bonding with centesimal accuracy.
A custom-built 3D simulator enables the design of movement choreographies through grayscale video input,
where pixel intensity translates into physical motion.
A dedicated protocol updates the position of 18,000 motors every 20ms, with full-duplex communication ensuring real-time diagnostics.
KWSA is designed for reliability, efficiency, and seamless integration into its environment.
The technology remains hidden, with movement as the focal point.
